Patrick, well known as DJGEM has always had a love for various types of music from different cultures. He received his first DJ equipment at the age of 15 from his Father and never looked back. Patrick is a self-taught DJ and started playing his first gigs in the villages and cities of Ghana for assorted events such as weddings, outdoorings, memorials, house parties, clubs, concerts and many more. DJGEM joined other Ghanaians within the diaspora of the United States, the spring of 2010. He was based in the Bronx, NY where he worked with his mentor DJ Onasis for 2 years to hone his skills and later branched off in 2012 to work on his own venture.
He developed a rapport with his clients and other external groups as one of the best DJ’s of all time. DJGEM has established accolades for himself for his dedication to his music and his clients from the time he started DJ’ing in Ghana to present. He worked on the 2012 Castro concert, he also DJ’d for Shatta Wale, Ruff n Smooth and R2Bees’ concerts in 2014. Another major event that he DJ’d for that drew much attention was Sarkodie’s concert at the Apollo theater in 2015.
In the very same year of November 2015, Gem created and executed with the assistance of Sheba Frempong, Portia Asare and Katrina Kalcic the first Annual African DJ’s and MC’s awards honoring prominent African DJ’s and MC’s for their commitment, hard work and dedication to their craft. The show featured artists such as Barbie, Koby of Wutah, 2Shy, Nana NYC, Fusion Dance, Frank’s Dance Troop and many more.
It was a success and received honorable mention on Bronx Net TV. In 2016 DJGEM was nominated for The Best International Ghanaian DJ for the Ghanaian DJ Awards Show that took place in Ghana. GEM has also made his mark by promoting his popular all white boat rides on the NY Hudson River. In a simplified phrase, GEM is the man to see when you want your event to go phenomenally!
