Ghanaians will not repeat the mistake of electing a leader that will give all of the country’s bauxite to a sibling, Mrs Samira Bawumia has said, saying President Nana Akufo-Addo is rather using the country’s resources for the benefit of every single citizen.

While addressing supporters of the governing New Patriotic Party’s at the launch of its Women’s Wing Campaign Committee in the Ashanti Region on Saturday, 5 August 2020, the wife of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia said voting back former President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) into power in the 7 December 2020 polls will be a mistake.

“This election is not about individuals, it’s about the nation, Ghana”, she told the supported, stressing: “The 2020 election is very critical not just because of you and me but because of the wellbeing of the whole nation, her future and her children”.

Mrs Bawumia said: “We have to consolidate our gains made through the hard work and service of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and my own husband Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia”.

She said unlike prevailed under the Kufuor administration where the economy was good, the Mills and Mahama administrations gave Ghanaians nothing but hardship.

“In 2008, the banks were chasing people to come for loans.

“The exchange rate was a cedi to a dollar at that time.

“The economy was doing very well.

“The NDC, however, brought us ‘dumsor’ and hardships”, she said.

“We really went through tough times until God blessed Ghana with His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo”, Mrs Bawumia told the crowd.

“So, we won’t repeat that mistake. We’ll not go backwards, we’re moving forward and we know that, inshallah, victory will be ours again for the sake of Ghana’s future”.

She added: “Someone came and gave all of Ghana’s bauxite to a sibling but President Akufo-Addo says he’s using Ghana’s resources for all Ghanaians and not just a select few. What else do you want but this?” she asked. 

Mrs Bawumia, thus, urged the people of the Ashanti Region, particularly the women who make up 51 per cent of the voter roll, to give President Akufo-Addo and the NPP 100 per cent victory in the party’s stronghold.
