Trey Songz has tested positive for coronavirus and he’s urging anyone that, like him, contracts Covid-19 to take it seriously.

The US singer, 35, took to Instagram to reveal his diagnosis and explained that he has been testing for the virus periodically over the last few months and unfortunately received a positive result this time round.

He insisted that he’s taking his diagnosis ‘seriously’ and will now be self-isolating at home, until he tests negative again.

In a video shared to his page, Trey – real name Tremaine Aldon Neverson – said: ‘Here with a very important message to let you know that I’ve tested positive for Covid-19.

‘I’ve taken many tests because I’ve been out protesting, food drives, of course I have a very young son at home. I’m being tested periodically and this time unfortunately it came back positive.’

Trey, who is dad to one-year-old son Noah, continued: ‘7.45million Americans have contracted Covid, 100,000 black people have died from it. I will be taking this seriously.’

‘I will be self-quarantining. I will be in my house until I see a negative sign,’ he added. Trey, who was wearing a t-shirt in support of Black Lives Matter, said he’s always taking coronavirus seriously and is urging fans to do the same, especially after his grandfather died from the infection earlier this year.

‘I don’t know how many of y’all know, but my grandad passed earlier this year and a lot of people said it was Covid. I do believe it was,’ he revealed.

Like many other stars, Trey then hit out at President Donald Trump following his controversial message ‘not to be afraid’ of coronavirus, as he continued: ‘I’ve always taken it serious. If you come in contact with Covid, please do the same.‘Please do the same and don’t be like our president. Thank you in advance for your support and your love.’ Trey captioned his video: ‘Down but not out! Stay safe y’all! Wear your mask. Wash your hands.’

News of his diagnosis comes after President Trump, 74, tested positive for coronavirus and was hospitalised in the US. He was discharged from the Walter Reed Medical Centre on Monday, but has faced backlash after telling US citizens not to fear the virus.

His tweet included: ‘Feeling really good! Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life.’
