#2020polls flawed, we reject it – NDC

The main opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC), has rejected the outcome of the December 7 polls.

At a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, 9 December 2020, Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu described the results declared by the EC as “flawed”.

The party further indicated that it does not recognise President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the rightfully elected President of Ghana.

The Tamale South Member of Parliament said: “We want to say that it’s a flawed election and therefore we reject it without any reservation, we reject the presidential elections as announced by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission”.

“And we also want to serve notice that the blatant effort to deny us a parliamentary majority will be fiercely resisted”.

Haruna Iddrisu also stated that: “We roundly reject and outrightly reject the declaration of the sitting president as the winner of the 2020 elections”, adding that in due course, the flagbearer of the party will address the nation and international community on issues “supported by vivid and technical evidence of add-ups to make up the supposed 51-plus-something per cent for someone”.

EC Chairperson Jean Mensa declared the sitting President as the winner of Monday’s polls on Wednesday.

The President will have an additional four-year mandate to govern the people of Ghana.

He beat eleven other candidates, including his arch-rival John Dramani Mahama of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), to secure a second term in what the EU’s Election Observation team has described as a generally free and fair election, albeit with isolated incidents of violence, some of which led to the loss of lives.

Declaring Nana Akufo-Addo the winner, Mrs Mensa said President Akufo-Addo won by 51.302 per cent to beat Mr Mahama who had 47.359 per cent of the total valid votes cast.

This is Akufo-Addo’s second electoral victory against former President John Mahama.
