African Amputee Nations Cup: Sports Min working to facilitate team Ghana’s departure from Tanzania

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has said it has contacted the leader of the team that represented the country at the 2021 Cup of African Nations for Amputee Football in Tanzania to facilitate their departure to Ghana as a “matter of urgency.”

This follows the circulation of a video on social media suggesting that the country’s Amputee Men’s Football Team is unable to fly to Ghana after winning the Cup of African Nations for Amputee Football in Tanzania.

A statement issued by the Ministry on Sunday, 5 December 2021 said: “For the records, the Ghana Amputee Football Association failed to inform the Ministry about the tournament in Tanzania, for the necessary support and facilitation to be extended to the team.”

The Ministry therefore admonished all “sporting federations to follow due procedure and inform the Ministry, through the NSA about their programmes and participation in international competitions for consideration and support.”

It added that the Minister has “directed the National Sports Authority to immediately look  into the issues at the Amputee Football Federation and help normalise their operations to avoid a repeat of the unfortunate stated circumstance.”

Team Ghana beat Liberia 4-3 to win the 2021 African Amputee Nations Cup.

However, with most of the players based in Turkey, the team is still in Tanzania soliciting for tickets to fly to Ghana to present the trophy to Ghanaians.
