Bawumia’s policies will bring relief to Ghanaians; vote for him – Kufuor

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has commended Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s (NPP) presidential policies, emphasizing their capacity to propel the country’s progress.

At a rally in Abuakwa South on Wednesday, the former president urged people to back Dr. Bawumia, stating that his programs and vision are essential to Ghana’s development.

“I have been listening carefully. Bawumia’s policies, especially his focus on training the youth in entrepreneurial and digital skills, are good. If you don’t want this, what do you want? So I plead with you, he is not just coming for the NPP but for the whole country.

“He will form an inclusive government. His policies will alleviate the suffering of Ghanaians. I have listened to all those talking about their policies, but I haven’t seen anyone with policies as good as Bawumia’s,” he stated.

After receiving criticism for his support of Dr. Bawumia, Kufuor has rejected requests to hold off on making any remarks regarding the general elections in 2024.

Citing his position as a statesman, critics had encouraged the former president to refrain from public endorsements, especially Movement for Change flagbearer Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen.

On November 27, however, Mr. Kufuor defended his support for Dr. Bawumia while speaking to fans at the Ofori Panin Palace at a campaign event in the Abuakwa South constituency alongside NPP running mate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

He urged Ghanaians to back the NPP in the next elections and restated his faith in Bawumia’s capacity for leadership.

“I am facing criticism for voicing my opinions on national matters due to my position as a statesman. Experience and wisdom are often associated with age.

“The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is my political affiliation, and it was through this party that I attained the presidency. Additionally, my child, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has been elected through the party.

“While I was President, he was a member of the Bank of Ghana team and showed remarkable performance during a challenging period when Ghana was in financial distress. Their efforts were instrumental in revitalizing the economy at that time,” Kufuor stated.
