Ghana’s COVID-19 death toll now 256; 101 new cases recorded

Eight more COVID-19 patients have succumbed, bringing the total national death toll to 256, the Ghana Health Service has reported.

Some 101 new cases were also confirmed recently.

It brings the total national tally to 43,094.

Of that number, 40,963 have recovered and been discharged.

The active cases, thus, stand at 1,875 as of Wednesday, August 19, 2020.

Of that number, 16 and six persons are in severe and critical conditions, respectively.

Three others are on ventilators.

So far, 429,773 tests have been conducted with a positivity rate of 10.0.

Some 156,645 of the tests were done on samples from routine surveillance out of which 16, 792 tested positive with a positive rate of 10.7.

The remaining 273,128 were samples from enhanced contact-tracing with 26,302 testing COVID-19 positive at a rate of 9.6.
