Xavier-Sosu’s arrest: Matter of mere security power play – MP

The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa West Constituency in the Upper West Region has said the police administration’s quest to arrest the NDC MP for Madina Constituency Francis Xavier-Sosu at all cost is a mere matter of power-play.
According to the MP, who was onetime Executive Secretary to an Inspector-General of Police, this is a mere matter of power-play which is not being managed well by the police administration.
He said this matter could have been managed better but some unseen hand wants to teach the MP in question a lesson.
Mr. Peter Lanchene Toobu said this on Thursday November 4, 2021 on the Ghana Yensom morning show hosted by Kwame Appiah Kubi on Accra 100.5 FM.
He explained that the officers who were at the church to arrest Xavier-Sosu last Sunday October 31 went there without authorisation from the IGP, Dr. George Akufo Dampare but under the authority of national security.
He explained that police officers who are on secondment to national security and to the presidency do not take orders from the IGP even though they are police officers.
He noted that these officers are under the command of the National Security Coordinator and National Security Minister.
He maintained that it is the reason the police administration received some bashing for the atrocities that happened during the Ayawaso West-Wuogon Constituency by-election in the Greater Accra Region.
The Police administration has filed two charges against Madina MP Francis Xavier-Sosu for leading a demonstration over poor roads in his constituency that turned chaotic.
The charges include obstructing the highway and causing damage to public property.
The lawmaker is expected to answer the charges on November 8 in court.
The Police have accused Mr Xavier-Sosu of inciting his constituents to block the road during the demonstration.
They have failed in their attempt to arrest the MP who has declined several Police invitation citing Parliamentary privileges.
