I never performed at Entertainment show while in SHS – Mandem Yopic

Hiplife musician Mandem Yopic, known in private life as Andrew Yaw Kwarteng, has revealed that he never performed any of his songs during his days in Senior High School.

The Sefwi-born musician, who is also an Immigration Officer, said that although he discovered his musical talent during secondary school, he chose to focus on his academics and refrained from performing the songs he had started composing.

Many musicians who develop their talents early often perform during entertainment shows in school to showcase their abilities to fellow students.

However, in an interview on Adinkra Radio’s podcast show Vibe with Lady JayJay, Mandem Yopic, whose hit song “Onyame Mmo” is currently enjoying massive airplay, explained that he stayed away from such performances because he was shy and was also a science student, with a strong focus on his studies.

“I never performed while I was in SHS because I was a very shy student,” he said. “That was me in SHS, but now I’m gradually overcoming the shyness. My time in SHS was when I started writing my own lyrics, but I only did that while at home during vacations. I was a science student, and I needed to be serious with my books at that time. As you know, science students are very serious with their studies, you would hardly find a science student frequently playing games like football.”
