Only 11 model schools in Ghana will be rebranded – Education Ministry PRO

The Ministry of Education has clarified that only 11 Model Schools [public basic schools] across the country will be rebranded and have new uniforms for the students.

The Sector Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum’s comments at a recent forum sparked confusion after he announced that there’s going to be shift to “blue and white” uniforms for public basic school students and the school blocks as well being rebranded in blue and white colours.

A large section of the public objected to the rebranding announcement arguing that this was unnecessary as there are more pressing needs that have to be taken care of in the education sector.

But the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Kwasi Kwarteng in an interview with Daakyehene Ofosu Agyemang Morning show Host of New York-based Adinkra Radio, on Monday, April 29, 2024 clarified that these changes are limited to new schools.

“Elsewhere, this wouldn’t have been an issue. We are not painting all public basic schools in Ghana. Currently, we have 11 model schools across the country. These are the ones that are going to be painted. So when people speak about we are going to change uniforms for the whole public basic schools that is not correct. It is just about 11 models schools at the junior high school level to replace existing ones. What this means is that one model school will serve a number of other schools in the area as it will have the best of amenities and will be well resourced. Some of the model schools are in Chamba in Northern Region, Onwi, Juaben in the Ashanti Region and other parts of the country.”

He added: The newly constructed 21st Century Model Junior High Schools will also have the option to choose brighter and friendly colors for painting. The aim is to lighten and enhance the appearance and physical outlook of the new schools. It is never a case of repainting existing schools or altering them in anyway.”
