Young man allegedly commits suicide at Kade

A young man, believed to be in his late twenties, has allegedly committed suicide in Kade in the Eastern Region.

He was found hanging on a piece of cloth on a tree at the back of a house.

The deceased, a former student of Kade Senior High Technical School, was discovered lifeless under circumstances that have left the community in shock.

The Kade Police have since removed the body, which has been deposited at the Kade Hospital morgue for further examination.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to Mental Health Authority, Ghana recorded 81 completed suicides and 543 attempted cases in the first half of 2024, as against 48 completed suicide cases and 594 attempted in 2023.

The Authority decried the increasing trend as worrying as a majority of these cases are young people between the ages of 15 to 30 years.

The most completed cases of suicide occured in the Greater Accra Region while Eastern and Central Region are endemic with attempted cases.

The amendment of Section 57 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and Section 95 of the Mental Health Act, 2012 (Act 946) b Act 1092, persons who attempt suicide are no longer liable for prosecution and or conviction in Ghana.
