Hopeson Adorye arrested over his dynamite detonation claims

Former member of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) and now Director of Special Duties for the Movement for Change, Hopeson Adorye has been arrested by the police over his claim he detonated dynamites in the Volta region during the 2016 polls.

His arrest has been confirmed by police sources.

The firebrand and controversial politician who is in the custody of the Ministries Police Station is set to appear in court tomorrow.

It is unclear what his charges are.

Hopeson Adorye in a recent interview with an Accra-based Radio station, alleged that dynamite explosions in the Volta Region preceding the elections aimed to deter voters in opposition strongholds.

“Prior to the elections, we blasted dynamite in parts of the Volta Region, and that scared a number of people. When I finished casting my ballot in Tema, I drove to the Volta Region, and when I asked for the number of people who had voted and the expected number of voters, it turned out people did not come out to vote,” Adorye asserted.

Last week, veteran broadcaster, Kwame Sefa Kayi, called for Hopeson Adorye’s arrest and for him to be investigated over his claims.

On his radio show, Kwame Sefa Kayi however, expressed skepticism regarding Adorye’s assertions.

“Tweaaa, Kwesi, have you ever witnessed the blasting of dynamite? Dynamite was utilized during the construction of the Tetteh Quarshie interchange. The exact time and date of the dynamite explosion was communicated around one week in advance. At the debate, Sefa Kayi said, “Those of us who lived within about a two-kilometer perimeter from the blast could feel the impact.”

“He’s saying he set off dynamite, and you can’t play around with even the tiniest dynamites.” Where did you acquire the dynamite? He ought to be taken into custody or called to demonstrate where he detonated it. Have you purchased it? Did you receive it?” He inquired.
