2020 polls: Be guided by previous elections – Catholic Bishops’ Conference
The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference has reminded Ghanaians to use the previous successful elections held in the country as a yardstick to ensure that the 7 December 2020 polls are “even more successful.”
Ghana goes to the polls on Monday, 7 December 2020 to elect a president and Members of Parliament for all 275 constituencies across the nation.
Ahead of the polls, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference, in a pastoral letter on Tuesday, 11 August 2020, called on every Ghanaian to use politics for nation-building.
The Bishops’ Conference said: “As your shepherds, we deem it appropriate to issue this pastoral letter as a reminder to you, our fellow citizens to embrace politics as an indispensable tool for nation building.”
The Conference further urged Ghanaians to “work consciously toward peace-building and abhor the acrimonious type of politics now gaining currency in our dear country.”
It also asked Ghanaians to be mindful of the successful elections that have been held in the country in the Fourth republic so as to make the “impending ones in December this year even more successful”.
“All Ghanaians, especially political actors, need to be reminded that politics, according to the wisdom of the sages and the saints of all times, is a noble activity.
“In fact, it is the noblest vocation of man, because, it is like religion: devoted to service of the common good of all humanity. Politics should, thus, promote the integral development of all citizens as one human family”.
