We are considering reducing transport fares – True Drivers Union

The True Drivers Union has revealed that it is currently considering the possibility of reducing transport fares soon.

According to the group, it is particularly pleased that fuel prices have been reduced five times since the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration assumed office.

Speaking to Daakyehe Ofosu Agyeman, host of the morning show on New York-based Adinkra Radio, on Friday, May 2, 2025, the National Spokesperson of the True Drivers Union, Yaw Barima, said drivers are happy with the consistent drop in fuel prices and are contemplating a downward review of transport fares.

“We are thinking of reducing transport fares so that the cost of bringing foodstuffs from the hinterlands will also go down, thereby ensuring a reduction in food prices. When this happens, we will all be more comfortable in this country.

“Under the previous Akufo-Addo government, whenever drivers were on the road, they constantly checked fuel station price boards to monitor fuel prices. In most cases, any change in prices meant an increase. But now, drivers no longer check fuel prices, we simply hear from the media that prices have dropped.”

He was excited over the performance of the Mahama government but warned that the government to guard against complacency.

“This is a positive development for us drivers. For now, we feel some relief. As we speak, we can say that we have a better government in power. However, we cannot predict the future. If the government becomes complacent and things begin to deteriorate, trust me, we will raise our voices and speak out.”
